Back to School

Live Oak Families,

Can you believe we are only 2 weeks from the start of school for the 2020-2021 school year?  School starts on August 11th.  While we are not off to the start we had all hoped, we have been busy planning and providing training to our staff to be able to provide the best educational opportunities for our students that we can at this time.  I would like to extend a special welcome to all new Live Oak families, we are so happy you are Leopards!  I send a parent email every week, usually on Mondays, to update you on what is going on at school and remind you of important dates and events. Currently, our office staff is on campus each day from 8:00-12:00pm to answer phone calls.

There are two models you have to choose from for this year.

  • On campus learning- While this option will start with distance learning on August 11th, it is our hope to get students back on campus as soon as we have the ok from the state and the health department.  When we are allowed to return, we will begin with the hybrid model.  In this model ½ our students will attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays (A-L) and the other ½ on Thursdays and Fridays (M-Z) to allow for social distancing.  All students will participate in distance learning on Wednesdays.  We hope that later in the year we will be able to bring all students back everyday.

  • Virtual Academy- In this option, students will learn online all year.  They will be assigned to a class with a teacher from our distinct, not necessarily from Live Oak, and will be mixed with students across the district.  Nicole Price, assistant principal at CMS, will be overseeing this program.

Students can change from one program to another at each semester, if space is available.  If you want more information, or wish to change from the program you are signed up please contact our office between the hours of 8-2 or email me ( ASAP as we are in the process of making classes.

Back to School Night- Our Back to School Night will take place virtually on the evening of August 10th.  Your child’s teacher will email you a link to join their live presentation through Zoom on the 10th.  There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions at the end of the presentation.  If you are unable to watch one of the virtual presentations, teachers will be recording them and you may view them at a later time.  Here is the schedule for the evening:

  • TK/K- 5:00 to 5:30pm

  • 1st and 2nd grade- 5:45 to 6:15pm

Lost and Found:  We had quite a few items left at school when we went to distance learning last March, mostly sweatshirts and lunch boxes.  We will be displaying these items on the lawn in front of the school this Friday, July 31st, from 8:00am to 12:00pm.  You may come take a look, and take home any items that belong to your family.  All unclaimed items will be donated.

I hope you enjoy your last 2 weeks of summer break!  I look forward to seeing everyone, even if it is just virtually!
