SCV School Districts Providing Services for Students with Special Needs

ELPA is a consortium of 5 school districts: Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Sulphur Springs and William S. Hart Union High School District. These districts work together to provide special education services for students with identified disabilities from birth to age twenty-two. Services are offered in the least restrictive environment in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Castaic School district prepares to hosts BBQ tonight

As districts across the Santa Clarita Valley prepare to host their back-to-school events, the Castaic Union School District invites local parents, students and teachers to its inaugural community barbecue event today from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Castaic Middle School.

Complete with free dinner, child care and a special presentation from Tyler Durman, the community event and speech will focus on “What 4 Million Teenagers Wish We Knew,” district leaders said. Based on his book “Counterintuitive,” Durman’s speech will focus on inspiring parents to be more encouraging and engage with their children in a way that helps them reach their fullest potential and be successful.

Crossing the big old blue

When 2018 California State Teacher of the Year award winners aren’t grading papers, preparing assessments and assisting children, then you may find them throwing out the first pitch at a Dodger baseball game or on a tour abroad learning about culture and education.

“It’s a tradition for the Teacher of the Year Foundation to send the five Teacher of the Year winners to Japan,” said Erin Oxhorn-Gilpin, a teacher at Northlake Hills Elementary School. “The idea is to have cultural immersion, see other schools and be a representative of the California education system.”
