The Castaic Union School District board of trustees has selected Fred Malcomb as its president for the 2020 school year.

Castaic School Board members held their annual organizational meeting on December 12 and elected officers and representatives for 2020.

Castaic Middle School KLAWS clubs in partnership with West Ranch High School and DFYinSCV will carol to the adoptable pets at the Castaic Animal Care & Control Center on Thursday, December 19, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is designed to help create awareness of their availability for adoption and, of course, to show these ready-to-adopt animals some love.

Castaic Union School District and Castaic Middle School are proud to announce the upcoming Winter Concert Series with performances on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:00 p.m.

Castaic Union School District and The Music Center announced Tuesday the upcoming Korean Classical Music & Dance Company performance at Northlake Hills Elementary on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

During the assembly, girls are expected to learn about career opportunities, achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, balancing stress and putting dreams into action, officials said.

Although they are the smallest district in the Santa Clarita Valley in terms of both total number of students and schools, the Castaic Union School District continued to see growth on their standardized test scores this past year.

Despite the fires last week, the winds this week and the potential for power shutoffs stopping classes daily, dozens of Castaic-area students decided to spend their after-school time reading to animals Wednesday.

The event, named the Barking for Books Halloween event hosted by Kids Loving Animals Within Shelters (KLAWS), was attended by approximately 60 students from elementary schools within the Castaic Union School District, Castaic Middle School and West Ranch High School.
